Zilker Park plays host to over a 100,000 people who migrate to Austin, Texas, for the ACL Festival. This year’s 10th anniversary crams over 130 bands onto 8 stages in 3 days; and then there’s the heat. This year’s festival organizers, performers and fans alike faces the unknown challenges that a caustic heat wave brings to thousands of people crammed into one spot. Some bands succeeded, some didn’tâ€“ but not because they didn’t try, the heat was brutal.
The Onion’s AV Club has been putting on a fun series of video posts titled “A.V. Undercover” the past 2 years. 25 classic songs performed by bands/artists stopping by the A.V. office. 2011’s highlight (so far) has to be Parts and Labor’s cover of Kanye West’s hit, “Runaway”
I have many good things to say about Jay-Z & Kanye West’s recent collaboration, “Watch The Throne” but cmon- yawl won’t care to read further unless I ink n’ hint at trashing it, right? Sorry, this is as good as records get, over the top and entertaining. With that out of the way, I have nothing more to say about the Throne’s substance. The Throne’s timing- considering the rest of the world, this country, being in turmoil- is perfect and worth discussing.
