It’s maybe the best thing done by anyone, ever. It could create another planetary system. I’m not joking, and I’m not being egotistical. – Lou Reed (source: New York Magazine, 6/29/11)
It hurt to type it but you read it right. Lou Reed & Metallica’s project, LULU, sees a worldwide release date on Halloween, October 31st, 2011; and a formal North American release date of November 1st. Will you care? Do I care? It’s either going to be all kinds of bad, or all kinds of bad ass.
Lou Reed’s catalog, from the Velvets to solo and everything in between, is synonymous with pushing an artistic envelope along with commercial appeal- or anti-commercial appeal (see Metal Machine Music, the 70s follow up to Lou’s big commercial hit, Transformer which featured Walk on The Wild Side). Lars Ulrich’s drums rattling against Lou’s monotone delivery sounds like a disaster… but Lou’s disasters are always worth listening to. To be determined.
